Your Hosts — Dennis and Peggy Awtrey

Dennis and Peggy Awtrey fell in love with Manzanita after years of vacationing on the Oregon coast. They had just finished remodeling their historic home in Phoenix, Arizona when the lot of their dreams became available; a rare find overlooking a seven mile beach on the Pacific Ocean in the artistic community of Neahkahnie. After purchasing the lot in 2005, the Awtrey’s selected James Cutler, world renowned architect, to design their home to be shared with guests as a memorable Bed and Breakfast. Dennis moved to Neahkahnie in November 2008 to oversee the construction and ultimately acted as the general contractor. The Awtrey House was completed in May 2011 and the Awtreys have settled into their dream house and the Northwest lifestyle.

Dennis Awtrey is known for his 12 year career in the NBA. As a 6’10” center, he was a three-time Academic All-American basketball player for Santa Clara University. He was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in 1970. In addition to the 76ers, Dennis played for the Chicago Bulls, Phoenix Suns, Boston Celtics, Seattle SuperSonics, and Portland Trail Blazers. His career was highlighted by two trips to the NBA finals, winning the championship in 1979 with the Seattle SuperSonics. In 2002, Dennis was inducted into the San Jose Sports Hall of Fame and in 2011, he was inducted into the West Coast Conference Hall of Honor.
